How to play KRILLION: the guide to getting started

KRILLION ·

KRILLION is a free guessing game where you type your answer and rarer answers go deeper. This guide walks you through your first game step by step, then shares a few tips. For the exact rules, the rules page stays the reference.

What KRILLION is, in two lines

KRILLION plays in the browser, in English and French. One game has 7 questions, each gives you 25 seconds, and the maximum total is 700 points.

Each question names a closed set of correct answers, such as name one of the countries in the world, and you give a single one. There is no multiple choice: you type your answer. For the full, detailed rules, the site’s rules page is to the point; this guide, instead, shows the game in action.

Your first game, step by step

A round always follows the same flow. Once you have it in mind, everything else falls into place.

The 3 second preview

The question shows first for 3 seconds, before you can type. Use it to read the requested set carefully: this is the moment a good idea can surface.

The answer in 25 seconds

The field opens, and you have 25 seconds to type a valid answer. Small variations are tolerated: missing accents, capitals, a leading article. Do not aim for perfect spelling, aim for the right answer.

The rarity that decides the points

Every valid answer counts, but not for the same number of points. An answer everyone gives scores little; an answer that is just as correct but rarely named scores a lot. That is the heart of the game.

Depth in metres

Your points convert to depth: 10 metres per point. A perfect game takes the drone to 7,000 metres. That is the number you compare and share.

The tiers at a glance

Every valid answer falls into one of 6 rarity tiers. Here is what each is worth.

Three tips to score more

Scoring high is not about speed but about which answer you choose. These three reflexes make the difference.

  • Set aside the obvious answer. The first one that comes is often the one everyone gives, so the one that scores least.
  • Reach for your second idea. The answer you would have given second is often rarer and just as correct.
  • Beware the too-clever answer. The one that feels smart is sometimes a trap the game rewards poorly.

Choosing a mode and a theme

KRILLION offers several ways to play, depending on your mood.

The Daily Dive is the daily game, the same for everyone. Endless Pop chains pop-culture games one after another. The 4 packs group questions by theme: pop culture, movies and TV, sport, geography, for a total of 380 games playable in any order you like.

How far it is free

The first game of the day is playable without an account. A free account opens 5 games a day.

To remove the daily limit there is a one-off purchase of 3.50 EUR, with no subscription and no renewal. So the game stays free to play every day, and the payment only lifts the daily ceiling.
